Welcome to Piqué Dance Studio! In an attempt to make registration as simple as possible, we have put together this letter outlining our programs. We hope that it will answer many of your questions. If you have further questions please send an email to piquedance@gmail.com or call us at the studio (613) 692-0520.

Classes start on September 8th 2025

We are a B.A.T.D. school.  This means that we teach classes according to the British Association of Teacher of Dancing.  Our students progress year by year through grade and/or medal levels and attain certificates and medals after having successfully taken an examination held in late February/ early March.  An examiner comes to our studio, either from another part of Canada or from the UK, and spends the week assessing the student’s work.  Each child is assessed individually, and has the potential to follow through to professional levels.  The examinations are standardized and therefore if your family moved to another area, your child could fit into another B.A.T.D. school with ease.

Examinations are optional and students may take examination classes without taking the exam. We feel, however, that examinations give the students a personal sense of accomplishment and a goal to aim for. To date we have achieved 100% pass rate. We encourage students to start exams at the Pre-primary level as it increases their confidence in exams as they get older.

Please note that:

  • Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Stage, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop will have the opportunity to take an exam in late February/ early March. This varies by class level and by age; more information will be available upon registration.
  • Our Junior and Teen Contemporary, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre classes are part of our recreational program. These classes are set up to allow juniors and teens, who have not danced at progressive levels, to take classes in a fun relaxed atmosphere with students their own age.
  • Our Hip Hop classes are recreational, however, *NEW AS OF 2023* they will have the option to take a BATD hip hop exam in late February/ early March.
  • Our Musical Theatre classes are recreational, however, *NEW AS OF 2026* they will have the option to take a BATD Musical Theatre exam in late February/ early March.
  • Our modern classes follow Horton and Graham technique and do not take an exam.
  • Our Ballroom for kids classes follow that syllabus and will not take an exam (please see the description under “Class Info & Dress Code” tab) .
  • Our Performance Cheer/ Pom Technique classes are designed to enhance Performance Cheer technique (please go to the “Class Info & Dress Code” tab for more information).

Policies and Procedures

Fees and Discounts

Our year is divided into two terms of 17 weeks each.

Term I: September 8, 2025 – January 25, 2026

Term II: January 26, 2026 – June 6, 2026

Our class fees are charged per term for starlite, tiny and mini level classes. Classes primary/ junior level and above are charged per year with payment made in two instalments, plus HST.

If registering for more than 1 class within a family, a discount is applicable.

Exam fees are separate and paid to us and then directly to the examiner to cover costs, as well as for medals and certificates. They start around $51.00 per exam +tax. They are due 3 weeks before exams.

BATD Exams for 2026– Wednesday February 25th – Saturday February 28th 2026 inclusive

Refund Policy

Due to the popularity of our dance classes, we are not able to offer trial classes (children need to be registered for a class :). During the first 3 weeks we are able to: switch children into a different class or process a refund for the remaining classes. An administration fee of $35.00 +hst will be charged for refunds. There is no fee to switch into a different class.

Second term payment is refundable if your child does not return to the studio for the second term. Please notify the office in writing by email by January 1st if your child is not returning. A $35.00 +hst administration fee is charged if you do not notify the office by January 1st.

We charge a $35 membership fee +hst, per family, on the first registration of the school year.

Policy for Closing During Bad Weather

In cases of nasty winter weather it is sometimes required that for the safety of dancers and staff the studio be closed. If we are closing we will post an announcement on our website, Instagram and Facebook fan page. We try to make decisions regarding closing by 3:00 pm so that no one is driving to the studio.

Recital- End of Year Showcase

At the end of the Winter/Spring term in late May we hold our annual recital showcase performance. A costume rental fee will be requested at the time of registration for dancers in Primary and above classes and at second term registration (Show Term) in December for Starlite, Tiny & Mini classes. Please note that costume rentals fees are non-refundable and there is sometimes a small balance requested if the costume is “yours to keep”. This occurs, on occasion, in a Primary and above level class. Every class will perform in one routine, with the exception of the following: Ballet Technique, Saturday Ballet Examination or a second ballet exam class, Contemporary Examination and Stretch & Strength. When you register it will be noted if the class will not be performing in a recital. We try very hard to keep the cost to you for costumes and tickets as low as possible. We generally provide the costumes for our students on a rental basis; following the principles of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. We have a fabulous studio wardrobe which grows by the year. The tickets for the show are intended to cover the cost of the theatre rental, lighting, sound system and theatre staff.

The studio produces two different recitals based on age/ level. Starlite, Tiny & Mini dancers are in the “Matinee” show and Junior and above classes are in the “second “Evening” show. TBA for our “Primary” level dancers.

We hope that this has been useful. Please email us at: piquedance@gmail.com if you have any questions.
