Types of Dance/Fitness

Ballet – slow, precise movements to classical music. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A ballet dance is also practised weekly.

Jazz – A fast paced class to Top 40 music. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is also practised weekly.

Tap – Rhythm based style of dance incorporating the use of shoes with metal taps on the bottom. Sounds are isolated through the feet. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is also practised weekly.

Modern – This style of dance is a cross between classical ballet and jazz. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is also practised weekly.

Hip Hop – Street type jazz, similar to what’s on television to Top 40 music. There are weekly conditioning and strengthening exercises. A dance routine is practised weekly.

Stretch & Strength – isolated stretching and strength building exercises mostly done on the floor.

Musical Theatre – is a lively dancing and acting class. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is also practised weekly.

Jumps & Turns – a class that focuses on the technique of all of the various jumps and turns found in dance.

Contemporary Jazz – a cross between, ballet, jazz and modern dance. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is also practised weekly.

Pointe – a classical ballet class using pointe (toe) shoes. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is started towards the end of the first term.

Highland – is traditional Scottish dancing. Weekly exercises are done at the barre, in the centre and across the room. A dance routine is also practised weekly.

Pilates – a fitness class based on developing initial core strengthening which builds on strengthening the rest of the body. This class incorporates the use of mats, bosu balls and fitness tubes.

Ballroom – a class for adult couples which focuses on an introduction to different ballroom styles and then a more intensive approach as the levels progress. Styles include waltz, tango, cha cha, fox trot, quick step, rhumba and the jive.

Boys Only – a class geared towards boys who prefer to take a dance class without girls. Classes are offered in hip hop.

Teen Recreation – for teenagers aged 13 and above with minimal dance experience.

Zumba – a class for adults, Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO". Zumba is a “feel-happy” workout that is great for both the body and the mind.

Levels and Schedule

Mom & Me (ages 12mos-3yrs)

This music and movement program focuses on the development of gross motor skills. The class is taken with a parent or caregiver. We sing, we dance and we act out popular children’s songs. Instruments are also used. Classes are offered once a week for 40 minutes in length.

Monday 9:30 am, Tuesday 10:15am

Starlite (ages 3-5)

Starlite is an introduction to dance teaching basic movements and dance positions, rhythms and creative movement. This class focuses on the development of coordination and musical awareness based around make-believe as we learn dance through play. Instruments are also used. Classes are offered once a week for 40 minutes in length in combinations of either ballet with jazz or ballet with tap.

Ballet with tap: Wednesday 1:15 pm, Saturday 9:45 am

Ballet with jazz: Tuesday 9:30 am, Tuesday 5:15pm, Wednesday 1:35pm, Saturday 9:00am, Saturday 11:15am

Tiny (ages 5-7)

Classes are 40 minutes in length per discipline. Children often take more than 1 class per week. The focus is on having fun while continuing to build on the basic dance skills such as rhythms, basic movements and dance positions. The tiny level classes follow the BATD syllabus (www.batd.co.uk) . Classes are offered in ballet, jazz, tap, highland and hip hop.

New dancers must register for, and take, Senior classes and then will be recommended by a teacher for advanced level classes. Dancers will be moved following teacher’s assessment.

Inter III Jazz: Monday 7:00 pm

Pointe: Level II Thursday 8:15 pm

Adult (18 and over)

Salsa: Tuesday 8:00 pm

Tap: Wednesday 7:00 pm

Jazz: Wednesday 8:00 pm

Zumba: Friday 5:00 pm

Ballroom: Level I Friday 6:00 pm, Level II Friday 7:30 pm. Classes are 90 minutes in length.

Pilates:Beginner Monday 9:30 am, Combo class Wednesday 9:30 am

Dress Code

All students need to come to classes properly dressed. This makes it easier for them to dance and for us, as teachers, to correct their work. Parents please help us with this as time is wasted in class if we have to ask pupils to change. Students are asked to be at the studio 15 minutes prior to the start of their class in order to be ready to go at class time.

The correct dance attire is as follows:

Girls – Bodysuit, Tights & Shoes

Starlite, Tiny and Mini Classes:
  • violet sleeveless tank
  • pink tights
  • Jazz: beige gore boot ( starting at mini level, starlite and tiny may wear pink ballet slippers)
  • Tap: “Mary-Jane” velcro fastened beige tap shoes
  • Ballet: pink leather full sole slippers
  • Highland: black leather slippers
  • Hip Hop: white runners (Must be clean indoor shoes, white runners will be required for recital).
Junior, Intermediate and Senior Classes:
  • black sleeveless tank - any style
  • beige tights for all classes except for ballet (pink tights)
  • Jazz: beige gore boot
  • Tap: 925 beige tap shoes (juniors & intermediates), “Hoofmaster” #CG100 or #CG06
  • Ballet:
    • Grades I & II: pink leather full sole slippers
    • Grades III and above: pink canvas split sole slippers
  • Pointe shoes as discussed with teacher
  • Highland: black leather slippers
  • Hip Hop: white runners (Must be clean indoor shoes, white runners will be required for recital).

Hair must pulled back from face in a ponytail or bun for all classes. Ballet Buns are required for all ballet classes Junior Level and above.

Boys – All Levels

  • black shorts & white socks or black dance pants & black socks
  • white T-shirt
  • Tap: black lace up tap shoes
  • Jazz: black gore boot
  • Ballet: black full sole slippers
  • Hip Hop: white runners (Must be clean indoor shoes, white runners will be required for recital).
